ArchiveGuard comparing JPEG metadata and JSON capture dates
ArchiveGuard date comparison and conflict review using synthetic files.

01

Getting started

Select JPEGs and their JSON files from an unpacked Google Photos export. Review the proposed matches and date differences.

02

The result

New JPEG copies, a manifest, and CSV/HTML audit reports recording each input and decision.

03 / Case study

How it works

  1. Ambiguous file matches and conflicting dates require a user decision. An unknown capture date is not replaced with the upload date.

  2. A worker checks supported JPEG/EXIF structures and prepares copies without re-encoding pixels.

  3. Before download, the application reads the copies’ metadata again and compares hashes of bytes outside EXIF. A package that fails verification is not offered for download.

Project limits

JPEG sample preflight, not universal archive repair. Originals remain untouched. No ZIP input, HEIC, RAW, timezone inference, or cloud processing.
